Man, it's been quite a week. I'm not sure what to say right now, but I wanted to show up here because I've made a commitment to myself to prioritize this space. My week has been consumed by election news and I've been trying to stay off social media a little bit to drown out the noise. It's been a lot to take in and digest these past few days. I'm thankful for posts like this that have helped me talk to Graham about the election results. But, I wanted to show up here today and keep things light. I know the world feels dark right now, but as Kamala mentioned, without darkness we cannot see the stars. And it feels good to have a little bit of light and casual somewhere this week.
// one // Ina Garten Be Ready When The Luck Happens: A Memoir
If you love Ina, you must read her book! I finished it on Wednesday and it was just the bright spot I needed. I adore her, and remember watching her cooking show back in high school and being drawn to her. She is so calming, classy, and basically I want to be her when I grow up. Her book outlines her life story, relationship with Geoffrey, and her career. I love her even more after finishing this book. It's one I'll likely read again. It felt so timely for me to read right now. Some of the things she went through in her career, a huge pivot that brought her to where she is now. And of course the message in the title, Be Ready When The Luck Happens. Was my being laid off luck? And another quote from the book, "you never know what the good breaks are". It was an inspiring and fun read.
// two // Chappy Wrap Blankets
To say I'm obsessed with these blankets is an understatement. I love to give them as gifts! I have about 5 in my cart right now, I just can't decide which print! I'd love another Christmas one, but also having one to leave out year round like this would be nice. If you're looking for a great gift for this coming holiday season, everyone I've gifted one to raves about it. They're the perfect size to keep on the couch for watching a show, I have one on our bed because I'm always cold, and the boys all have a mini size in their rooms. They're machine washable and even the one I've had for 4 years looks brand new. These are a few other of my current favorites one, two, three, four, five.
// three // Gratitude Journal
Since it's the season of gratitude I was inspired to order this affordable little journal on Amazon to start practicing gratitude daily. It's something I've been curious about trying, but haven't actually sat down to do it yet. I figured now is the perfect time to start. Tis' the season for being grateful for all the things we have in our life. I also think it will help in our current climate to focus on things that bring me joy and happiness, to make the world feel a bit less dark.
// four // Local Holiday Events
With the holiday season approaching, it's time to start planning our calendars. I love to do as many local things as we can with the kids to celebrate the season and make it festive. I probably over do it, but now we have so many traditions I try to keep up with them all. Try searching your local town or county to see if they have page on their website with local holiday events, you never know you could find your new favorite tradition! I remember when Graham was a baby and we went to our first Auburn Light Parade, I was blown away. Now it's one of our favorite holiday traditions. I'll be working on a post and reel for the local events here in Placer County to share as well.
// five // Holiday Party Dress
I love Rent The Runway for holiday and event dressing, it's so fun to have so many options to choose from. Plus when I rarely want to re-wear dresses for events, so this is a sustainable (and more affordable) way to 'shop' With that said, I adore this dress from Hill House! Rent the Runway does have Hill House sometimes, but I haven't seen this particular print or style. I am so tempted to buy it, I just love it so much, but without having a job an all, I should probably just continue lusting after it and leave it safely in my cart.
I hope you enjoyed today's post. This casual style of posting reminds me of the original days of blogging. I plan to share these "On My Radar" posts weekly or bi-weekly moving forward.
